Apical Resection

Tooth extraction is not the only option in the presence of abscesses in the roots of the teeth. Root canal treatment is done first. Even if it is not enough, there is a chance of resection. Apical resection is the treatment of stubborn root abscesses by direct intervention to the root of the tooth from the outside.

What is Apical Resection?
In the apical resection method, it is the process of removing the inflamed area at the root end of the tooth in the bone. In some cases, root canal treatment alone does not help in relieving inflammation. In such cases, apical resection is required.

In Which Situations Is It Applied?
If there is a cyst in the roots of the teeth
If pain persists despite root canal treatment
In case of tooth root fracture
In case the root canal treatment cannot be fully applied due to the structural problems of the tooth root
If an instrument breaks during root canal treatment
How is it done?
It is done under local anaesthesia. This application generally takes about 30 minutes. It is realized by cleaning the infected tissues. The area is then closed by suturing.

Things to Consider After Application
You should not consume anything for 2 hours after the operation.
Afterwards, food and beverages should be consumed warm.
The tampon should be kept for half an hour.
Ice compresses should be applied every 10 minutes for 1 day.
The operation area should be kept clean.
Medications prescribed by the doctor should be used.
