Cephalometric Radiology

Cephalometric X-ray allows to show the head structure and soft tissues in the same film. It is used both before and after treatment.

With the cephalometric x-ray method, skull bones and soft tissues can be visualized in the lateral, anterior and posterior positions on the same film. This system is generally used in orthodontic treatment and surgery.

What Does a Cephalometric X-Ray Do?
Cephalometric X-ray can be used both before and after treatment. It is used to determine the treatment plan before the treatment and to evaluate the effects of the treatment after the treatment. With this system, the size and posture of the head and facial bones are evaluated. In cephalometric x-rays, the head and face must be displayed in lifelike dimensions. For this, the beam source is usually removed from the patient. Thanks to this system, it is possible to display soft tissue and skull bones in the same film in anterior, posterior and lateral positions.

What are the Advantages of Cephalometric X-Ray?
Cephalometric X-ray facilitates the diagnosis and treatment process. For this reason, it is known as a frequently preferred method in dentistry. The reasons and advantages of using this system are as follows:

Early detection of cysts, tumors and caries
Significantly reduces the amount of radiation
Facilitates the orthodontic treatment process
